November: when the too-early dark of Standard Time returns, but thankfully we have all that Halloween candy to light the way!

Hello from Lindsay House, where the staff of The Fourth River is spread out among three different conference rooms, reading diligently through the Submittable queue, making their way toward the contents that will become issue 12, coming in Spring of 2015.

But before we get there, we will first launch our first fully online issue, an anthology of the best of the first ten issues of The Fourth River, at the end of this month. It was not an easy task to pick 40 excellent pieces from hundreds of pages of excellence, but that is precisely what the spring ’14 staff accomplished, and now their successors have the pleasure of making the issue and launching it to the world. We’re very excited to show you the range of depth of writing in our journal, and to celebrate again some of the best nature and place writing in the country.

If you’re local to Pittsburgh, consider joining us at the release party on Friday, November 21st at 7pm in the Mellon Board Room here on Chatham’s campus. Contributors Jan Beatty, Jim Daniels and Lori Jakiela will be with us, reading from their own work.

Stay warm and pass the peanut butter cups. We look forward to seeing you!
