15857171871_ab13ee0489_zIt’s perhaps a little outrĂ© to wish you all a Happy New Year halfway into the first month of it, but nevertheless, we do! We welcome 2015 and all it will bring for us at The Fourth River:

*Print Issue #12, coming in April, which will include an interview with the inestimable, Dinty W. Moore of Brevity

*Online Issue #2, featuring the theme section, QUEERING NATURE, coming in November

*AWP in Minneapolis–find us under the big lights of the book fair, as well as at an off-site reading with the writer folks at Butler University’s Pressgang and the terrific Canadian publication, Descant. More details about place, time and lineup to come.

When I moved to the ‘Burgh, everyone warned me about the relentless gloom. I was undaunted: I had spent the last decade in central PA, where “one must have a mind of winter,” or at least an appreciation for the colors brown and gray.

I’ll admit last winter here was pretty brutal. I’ll be happy if I never hear the words “polar vortex” again.

But, is it just me, Pittsburgh, or have there been kind of lot of blue sky sunny days so far in this long season? Maybe it’s a trick of the mind or a trick of the light, but I’ll take it.

We have so much to look forward to this year. Get outside and soak up all that good vitamin D so you’re energized and ready to come along!

Stay warm,

Sheila Squillante
