Tributaries: “Mindfulness”

Frost pays attention
to everything. It is curious
about each bump
and crevice of a roof tile,
fascinated by the folds
of a winter flower,
every vein and serration,
the edge of a broken
petal no less cherished
than a perfect one.

Joan Moritz was born in New York City but has made her home in Seattle. Retired from a career capturing the stories numbers tell, she currently spends her time transcribing books to braille, walking in nearby parks, and writing. Her work has been published in Blue Lyra, Drash: Northwest Mosaic, Poetica, and Tilt-a-Whirl, and was accepted for a poetry anthology about car-free living.
